Trong kiểu tranh chấp này, mỗi trạm lắng chờ tuyến và đợi cho nó không còn hoạt động. Khi tuyến đã rãnh, bất kỳ trạm nào muốn truyền đều phải đăng thầu tuyến bằng cách phát một thông báo yêu cầu gửi ( request-to-send) cho trạm nhận của mình. Nếu lời đáp là dương, trạm sẽ được tự do truyền, và mọi mắt nối khác phải đợi cho đến khi tuyến rãnh trở lại thì mới truyền được.
